So I had some time to myself and had a pair of 03 MGM headlights and decided to remove the housing. Long story short thanks to my 4 yr old who decided he wants to clean the bezel for me I discovered if you spray 2-1 rainx on the chrome bezel and wipe clean the chrome comes off revealing the original black bezel underneath. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/31/93d13ecb6ba872a31dea33c6783a47 cf.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/31/9c310db008eb448ee9bea476de77ca 1d.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/31/4096a1371a08960f5c8769c2f85c06 84.jpg here is the finished headlighthttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/31/4b848ec6a877d4c6925491bde2538b 47.jpg

So by cleaning it with that RainX product the chrome comes off leaving the black?
If so, are the housings OEM or aftermarket?

Correct! And their OEM headlights that I had laying around after swapping to MM headlights from an 03 grand marquis I used to own.

I am a little slow, mostly because I've had three maitais and am in Maui.
We can buy OEM grandma keys headlamps, take them apart, spray rain x on the bezels, AND THEY WILL LOOK LIKE marauder headlights?
Will they fit? I thought they didn't fit either...

^ this was established a while ago, by peeling off the chrome, but the Rain-X trick is pretty neat. I might paint the stripped trim with some gloss black to make it really shiney

03 and 04 grand marquis headlights are identical to marauder's except that they are chrome, they will bolt right in. 05 grand marquis will fit too but they have a different connector.

The black is already shiny no need to paint

What is the procedure for disassembling the headlights and putting them back together? Can this be done properly to make the headlight water tight again?

Nothing like spraying harmful chemicals all over our children's toys
Pretty cool trick though

I used a heat gun to loosen the glue that's holding it together, but don't concentrate on one area or you will melt the plastic housing . Enough glue to used for re-installing lens. After carefully prying the two apart the bezel is held by 4 screws and attached to the lens. I heated the existing glue around the housing and held the 2 pieces together for a min or so and tight and sealed. Forgive me not really good at write ups[emoji53]

THIS IS AWESOME! I need new front lenses (front piastic only).
Maybe we can talk next week? I think this needs a write up as I have only one side OEM light and need the other (Jerry?).
This is cool. If it isn't too hard, it would be fun to make 10 sets and fill this void.

I thought the MM's were tinted? Or is it just the black showing through?

Only difference between the 03-04 MGM and the marauder is the bezel. One being chrome and the other black

So are they more dull than a MMs finish?

Not sure what your referring to when you say dull. The MGM headlights were taken off in 05' replaced with aftermarket MM headlights assembly. So these are old just sitting in storage until lastnite. When the chrome came off of the MGM headlight the black was shiny no painting required. If I had a new set of lens I'm sure they'd look the finished headlights came off the shelf. Very easy procedure .

I mean if they are as shiney black as a new MM lamp's or if they are more matted. Hard for me to tell from my monitor here.

Exactly what I was thinking. Hire the kid and make money for his college fund!
Last I saw it was his idea, brainchild, find... Just say'en. Kid deserves to inherit a tricked out supercharged Marauder (after college).

Nice find! I'm guessing this would probably work on the Grand Marquis corner lights as well to remove the chrome.

I thought about doing body color bezels on my DBP but then I would have to do the cornering lights to match. Then I think it would make the front end wash out. When I get around to doing projectors Im pretty sure Ill just do black.
