Have a rented (free upgrade - not big dogging) NEW CADDILAC for the week... And the new LED lighting is absolutely SICK!
I will take some photos tonight to share, but I can now understand what/why you've all been doing/trying to upgrade the lighting now.
I know I am slow, perhaps even last in this endeavor -- but after seeing what is new and fresh... Dang it is time!
The door handle lighting is so sick!

Our new 2014 Lincoln MKZ has all LEDs and LED headlights. The headlights are awesome!

All of the lights are awesome. They outer skin of the door handle lights up/glows on this new Caddy.
Usually I don't go for this kind of thing (something else to go out-bad-wrong), but then realized lighting platform in simply cool. Just getting dark here in Maui. Will take some pics and attach while y'all are in bed.

I have the led headlights from superbrightleds.com and they are much better than the hid's I had. The hid's would shake when you hit a bump in the road and that was very annoying to me.

This is how it works...
1) HID Projector
2) LED Reflector
3) HID Reflector
4) Halogen Reflector
Stop guessing at true lumens output and visit HIDPLANET already.
http://www.kchilites.com/technology
See above link and view light output... HID wins once again.
Also with an LED being a 'single' spectrum you will not get the added benefit of HID / Halogen having a variable spectrum of output with a peak at the color of your choosing.
Also OEM LED can not be compared to an aftermarket LED plug in bulb. The housings are specifically designed for the LED on the FORD products, they will have a heat sink on the back of the LED chip and it is also not in the center like the design of a halogen bulb.
Keep in mind whenever I mention HID I am talking a proper HID retrofit...

Please park a HID projector setup next to a LED reflector setup and show the proof.
LJI372's retrofit will blow away any other Marauder for light output.

Guys, LEDs or HIDs don't forget to add an external relay harness to your project or you will make that 10A amp internal relay suffer the consequences. (LCM premature failure)

Unless you have a bifocal LEDs specific projector array setup, they will not be better than HID. The lack of heat dissipation on a drop in LED bulb which would be bright enough to use as a headlamp would have a short life span. IMO nothing better than a projector HID retrofit... until someone retrofits an LED lamp setup from another vehicle and makes it look good in the MM housing.

Precise feedback I like. You nailed the issues with what people are comparing, no drop in LED can be compared to an OEM LED setup.
In the works....

Here is the problem...
You are bench racing... I have seen side by side in person and researched on the topics. Also there are plenty of forums with measurements of lumens from aftermarket HID. Nothing touches a proper HID setup.
LED plug and play is a cheaper form of upgrade over halogen stock bulbs versus HID retrofit, it's not the best output.
If you don't like the look that is fine... But I assure you NO ONE likes the glare any reflector housing gives off with an aftermarket LED or HID plug and play option in a OEM halogen reflector housing.

Clearly we disagree on this subject, it doesn't require a case study to figure out LEDs are better, use less power , turn on instantly, emits a better looking light, and will out last hids , but stick with your hids , enjoy!

Ok, so like the big break -sweep area discussion, I am obviously far far behind the group.
Rest assured though I am enroute to catching up. My infinity M35S Tech, had HID's that turned left and right 3/8 inch or more when the car turned, and that was super cool when driving in dark mountains etc. It also had what I called "grampers lights" that lit the forward corner/side when you used the blinker (who does that anymore?) It also had led spot type lights in overhead that lit up the cup holder consol area (only-no light wash) from above.
Until that car went back on lease, I didn't realize how cool all of these were.
Here is a 3/4 of the new Caddie XTS.
Note these are the convenience lights that stay on when you unlock car from fob, or lock car to exit.

I will shoot dark photo tonight, with tail lights etc.
My point is/was this when I started the thread. Every X years, items take what I call a quantum leap in quality, reliability, use, integration, etc. it doesn't happen all at once, but rather, step by step, new applications one at a time.
It simply seems like the lighting has made that "leap" and I now understand, can see, and can visualize the dramatic epic difference.
The lighting alone on this caddy is simply cool.

Doesn't require it because there are so many case studies already on the subject. An LED bulb is only as good as it's housing as it is very directional, and the lifespan only as good as its heat dissipation.
You can make HID projectors look very factory with minimal bling, there's even square shrouds out now.

No LED can be compared so far with a genuine HID (not cheap stuff like xentec) in output lighting.
An LED replacement bulb in a halogen housing will not project the proper lighting to the floor. An HID kit in a halogen housing is cancer for pupils we all know that!
The only and best way to archive the best lighting experience on the road will be using an HID intended projector with a genuine brand HID kit.
