Anybody take Ford up on their service bulletin for the steering shaft recalled/inspection?
Did you have any trouble with getting them to replace parts(shaft), if they were modified?
Mine is heavily corroded, No alterations for headers ($till stock), just curious what experience members have had with dealers and recalls lately.

The steering shaft recall was only for 2005-2011 cars.

OK, sorry , I thought the concern is for Mercury Marauders as well.
Is there a change for 2005-2011 Panther models concerning the steering shaft?

FYI since the recall was put into place the price on these shafts dropped like a rock. I bought one a few months back and it was something like $52 Canadian. In the States they are probably selling for 30 bucks.

I just bought one from Ford about two months ago, it was around $189, and that was with our shop discount. It's the second time I've replaced it. When I bought my DD with 59,000 miles on it, it was frozen bought a Dorman shaft, and it lasted about 80,000 miles. When I replaced it this time, the rubber isolators were missing.

Do you have the part number of yours?

Maybe they gave you the shaft and sold you the bad one

Two years ago my F150 kept locking up so I just replaced the Ujoints in it and restamped the ends. It looked to be the same as the Rauder in regards to the joints. UJ1540 was the number. Easy peazy.

What is the issue? I've noticed some steering looseness lately at 135K miles. No salt on the roads.

The most common issue is a lack of return to centre when coming out of a turn.

Secondarily is a feeling of extra resistance at points during a turn. Dousing the u-joints liberally with WD-40 generally clears it for a while.

Not heard of the u-joint issue causing a looseness, but it's possible if they are really bad...

Sorry, missed this post. If you still need these, I can buy them. I should probably check to make sure the price hasn't gone back up.

It is a safety item, unless it's only geared to the northern states. They took care of many of our fleet cars, and reimbursed us for units that we purchased outright prior to the recall.

I did take make Marauder in for an inspection, besides it not needing it, I had to clean all the drool me fingerprints off the car...

Called the dealer this morning. Price is back up to $229. I guess they only had lower price when the service bulletin was up. I should stocked up when I had a chance.
