Why? Every time a software update comes out something gets broken.
Thanks to Darrin @ BC Automotive:

Keeping systems well maintained helps take advantage of newer features and aids security. There are problems, but that pain is almost always less than a big update later on. In today's world, staying current is SOP.

Not true in this case... MANY other forums are running much newer versions of Bulletin... for years now. Functionality would be similar, but improved. One feature I can think of is automatic image resizing. Idk why but for some reason the admins FREAK OUT if anything is posted with a resolution larger then 1280x720?? This certainly would solve that problem. And I'm sure there are many more features we are missing out on.

Before I sold my big board we went through a few forum board changes, the biggest was SMF to vB4. If we went through that with very little negative feedback, a vB3->vB4/5 would be relatively pain-free. Pain points manifest mostly as a result of poor project planning and inadequate community communication. An upgrade to vB4 at a minimum would be good for many reasons.

It's been determined by our server admin that with all the mods made to our version of VB, it would in fact NOT be simple or painless (or inexpensive) to upgrade for relatively little gain.

If you get help with the $, will you do the upgrade?

Money has nothing to do with it. The amount of down time and the re-indexing of 15 years of files, literally 1.5 Million posts, for very little gain and the possibility of adversely impacting current functions, makes attempting an upgrade very unappealing.

I still remember the upgrade when the photo gallery got wiped out. Tons of photo history of "how-to" threads and buildups essentially went away. Yeah, I know it's still out there, but they somehow got renamed so the links got broken.
