I have not replaced my Alt., but seems to me that, if you get the correct replacement...All the bolt holes should line up...including the off set bracket...

Disconnect your negative battery terminal first
Hook it back up again last.

There is no offset bracket. In most case with teh 6 rib system, there should not be any problem at all. Just replace. I have an 8 rib system and I had to grind a little off the alternator for clearance for the blower.

I would like to thank Seneca for all his help today. However, we did have a little problem. We installed a NAPA 135 Amp alternator. There were three problems with this. The electrical connector (3-prong) did not fit. Wrong size. It was also located on the right side of the alternator, not the left. This alternator also came without one way clutch pulley. Does anybody know if all the after-market brands all this way; do I have to go to Mercury for the right alternator?

The offset he's referring to is the idler offset....I think!!??

I replaced my alternator with an OEM one from Ford.....not to get screwed around by anyone who doesn't have a clue what a Marauder is!!

Whenever I removed the idler offset tab to replace the alternator I put the offset tab back on but did not tighten it up.....ran the idler shaft into it and then tightened it up......removed the idler shaft and reinstalled the idler pulley!!

If you don't line that little offset tab up well you WILL PLAY WITH IT ALL DAy LONG!!!

I hope that's what you were talking about.....
