    Fuel pump install question

    In the middle of replacing my fuel pump I have a solid black wire and a tan wire with a black stripe which one is positive And which one is negative?

    Neither of those colours is indicated in the factory wiring diagram...

    That’s inside the fuel tanK hat, On the outside it’s a pink and black wire and a black wire

    The gas has bleached the color on the wire.

    The stripped wire is positive

    Ok thanks, I have the pump back in now I can’t get the tank up in high enough To get the straps bolted back up again there’s got to be a trick to this, anybody know what I should do

    Damn...… You removed the straps.....

    The strap hardware is one time use only.... You have to order new hardware..


    Should have left the tank in place and dropped the PS exhaust hanger to access the hat.

    SORRY!!!

    I must have got lucky then as I just replaced my pumps and reused the straps including all hardware. It's a pain but it's all back in how it came out.

    Way back when, we dropped mine and reused everything as well, that was a one time deal tho. Never again will I pull a tank for the pump

    Agree. It was hard and I've done it a couple dozen times on vics without pulling tank. But now I have a custom exhaust that won't allow me to pull it like that anymore.

    When I replaced my pump I only removed one strap, it took me 1 hour to put it back on lol.

    It is doable but it all depends on how much patience you have, some people use some sort of extensions between the body and the strap, extensions using muffler clamps lol

    Fuel pump install question

    03 MM, Hello And greetings to everyone I’ve just replaced a fuel pump without dropping the tank and I am almost done my only problem is keeping the fuel gasket seal to stay in place while I bolt the outer plate up. Any suggestions or tips on getting the seal to stay in place

    I think there is a set of pull thru dimples on the gasket. I dont remember the gasket being flat

    You’re absolutely right I put the dimples in the hat and then tighten up. Installed thanks for your promptness
