Some of the aftermarket stores like Advanced and Pep Boys sell black touch-up paint called Duplicolor "All in 1" Scratch-Fix for about $15.00. But the dealer should only charge you about $18.00 to $20.00 for touch-up paint that will match exactly. So for the four to five dollar difference, it's worth it to go with the dealer.
I agree with Ambitious 1 ! O'Reilly charges $15 for dupli-color. Few dollars more it will actually match from dealer.

I was wondering, someone once told me to use acetone or finger nail polish remover on that touch up paint / if you screw up acetone removes the touch up but doesn't hurt the cars original finish
Yes? No? Maybe? Snopes? False Flag? Conspiracy theory?

finger nail polish remover has acetone in it..try it on a hidden area..door jamb, etc. make sure it has clear coat as not all areas get clear from factory..under hood, area around trunk deck and trunk opening etc..

When I had to replace the header panel on The Blackbird (don't ask...owner stupidity), I brought the new replacement to a local highly-recommended body shop to have it painted and just told them it was code UA. Matched perfectly.

The "Behind the scenes" part of your statement is when paint codes are entered into the paint system's computer, usually several formulas are displayed, the painter must go through a process to determine which formula matches the job in question. The notion that one formula matches all applications is far from the truth. Even with a formula chosen, adjustments with the toners may be necessary.
Maybe a simpler way to describe this is that there are several variations of each paint color. Dark blue pearl I think had 4 or 5 variations when I had my trunk spoiler painted. I heard something crazy like DTR had 8 or more? My painter brought paint cards over to the house and we put all of them on the trunk lid on a bright sunny day and picked one.
03blackvegas is absolutely correct when painting panels or larger parts. I still say when doing small rock chip touch up Duplicolor universal black FTW
