    Drag Racing best shift method

So going back to the track tonight, last time I went I just left the car in drive and floored it. Is there any advantage to shifting manually?

Turn OD off and let it shift on it's own.

What does turning the OD off do? I'm barely into 3rd when I cross the line.

For some reason the car feels like it shifts harder if I do it manually. When I shift manually it barks the tires on the 1-2 shift, if I leave it in drive it doesn't. Not sure what the difference is. Car has 4.10, Lidio Tune, JLT Cold Air.

shifting manually is very hard on the trans..these trans were not made for that. You'll have more rpms with OD off plus the OD bands are weak and don't hold up to WOT

Leave it in "D". The trans will shift faster and better. Do you have a tune? I'd also do the J-Mod.

I have Lidio tune, trans has 125K on it right now, I'm just waiting for it to let go so I can get a modded one and stall converter.

When you put it in neutral rev it up and then put in gear yeah it will shift harder and probably bark the tires.

If you want a lower time leave it in "D".

If I waited for it to shift automatically I'd be waiting a looonnnggg time!

With that said.. When I was auto I learned the quick way that these ECM's are not as fast to respond as I was to shift, couple that with an older trans and well.. I saw 6,800 twice shifting at 6,200 and my trans was in good shape.

That worked good for me N/A.
Now it just lights up the tires at the tree.

Well my best was a 14.86 followed by about 3 15.02's and a 15.18 just seems like it should be quicker with the mods I have (4.10, JLT, MSD street fire coils and Lidio Tune). Wondering if I should try a Marty'O tune? My best ever with that combo was 14.68. Tried both 91 and 93 octane tunes and didn't make a difference.
