    Cats and Mufflers

Well I know there are endless threads on exhaust but did not see one
That clearly answered my question. I planned on just getting a set of
magna-flow 18" and a set of Magna-Flow cats. maybe change to
Un-resonated tips later, but basically that's all I wanted to change. I noticed/
And read we have 4 cats in our cars. Is it even worth changing out only two?
Will it make any difference preformence/sound wise? And another dumb
question for those of you that bought our cats off "Kooks" is it 240.oo for
The pair, or is that 240.oo for each? Thanks for any help; and dealing with
    my ignorance

It depends on what you want to accomplish...

    Performance....Sound....or both.....

Changing out CATs would need to be replacing all 4 factory CATs for 2 high-flow...anything else would be fruitless.

Mufflers alone will change the sound AND give you some performance (especially switching out the OEM mufflers with the straight-thru Magnaflows). Tips from Megs that are "non-baffled" will make a sound difference, as well...but you'll find no performance difference by just doing those (the exhaust is cooled enough by the time it gets through the mufflers that unless you have Legal Knevil...there is no real need to upgrade the tailpipes for performance reasons.

I did a couple members this week with my new custom, stainless-steel, 2 1/2" X-pipe going to the 18" SS Magnaflows and they feel and will show improvements (we left the factory CATs on both cars)....

I hope this helps answer some of your questions.

Are your new custom X-pipe and Magnaflows for sale to the members here yet ? If it's a direct bolt on, a do it yourself job, then I'm interested.

No, it would not be a "do it yourself job", Carlos.... 'cause we weld the mufflers/tailpipes and we extend the tips out from under the rear bumper...

But, I'm not far away from you my friend..and you know I'll hook you up.....

I'm one of the members, and the work was great. Todd's shop uses mandrell (sp?) bending on the ss for flawless and even diameter tubes. I did leave the factory cats on, the downside being that from the manifolds back through the cats you still have 2" pipes (Todd, correct me if I'm wrong here). I definitely notice increased low rpm push as a result of the mod. I would still like a little more noise, though, and am probably going to go with the delete Megs tips. (Todd look for a pm). The overall result I'm going to have dyno'd for objective results, but overall I am very pleased with the mods.

I believe the first set of cats is for when the engine is still cold. These cats warm up quicker since they are so close to the exhaust ports. The cats need to be warm to work well. The second set of cats is for when the engine is at normal temp. It must be that the cats can get too hot to be effective. So, the second set is placed further away where they remain cooler at normal temp. At least that is how I understand things.

I know this is a repeated question some where in these forums. What is the outcome of no cats? Say you take the cat and hollow it out? More flow = more power? Reply if you like or show me the thread to go to.

Rear CAT only= no check engine light. Anything done to the front CAT (removed or gutted) would give a light.
