I talked to VIS racing about a cf hood.

I know class glass has fiberglass hoods but I was looking for a stock hood in appearance. I sent an E-mail to a few places and only visracing.com replied without an outright no:

"To produce something like this, it would require a minimum of 30-40
pieces on the first order, per part."

I'll try to nail them down on a price if there is any interest out there.

i doubt 40 people will commit to a cf hood. it wont be cheap. cf hoods are import mod mostly, at least the cf look whether it be a wrap or hydodipped. maybe back in 2007-2009 would have been more. today is very limited.

Probably going to be $1200 a copy. And if it's going to be a duplicate of my stock hood, I'll have pulley clearance issues. For that reason I'd pass.

To recreate the oem hood in CF is pointless! the Marauder isn't a 3000lb car , even if it was some type of cowl hood at the price point for a CF hood would be too high.

Have them make decklids too. Those lids feel like they are over 100 lbs

I asked about those too, haha. That is why they said 'per part.' They will make anything (doors, etc) with enough orders but, god damn, 30-40 might as well be a million.

Gotta wonder what even a stock DOHC would do in something that weighed as much as a miata...

I tried this years ago, that's about right on the price. Couldn't get buyers so it never happened. The big expense is in having the mold made. It will be a two part mold in order to make the bracing.
Thanks to Darrin @ BC Automotive:

I'm not sure why you would want to spend that kind of coin for a stock looking hood...?

IMHO the best looking hood was the one that a member had custom made for his turbo Marauder.
Can't remember the member's name and I know that he sold the car; but the hood looked close to stock except with a nice gentle curving rise.
IIRC it was a steel hood that cost him @ $2,200.

The '97 panthers had an aluminum hood and decklid. It helped, they were light. I know the newer frames are heavier.

Lightening the car is almost always worth doing. To bad it is impractical to have these parts made. For that matter, too bad Ford dropped the aluminum body panels. Rumor has it they didn't get enough improvement in EPA fuel economy to warrant the cost.
