Lightbulb Ford recalls 1.48 million F-150 pickups in North America over transmissions

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co said on Wednesday it was recalling about 1.48 million F-150 pickup trucks in North America due to a potential transmission downshift issue that could increase the risk of a crash.

Ford issued a safety recall on about 1.5 million vehicles Wednesday. It's recalling select 2011 to 2013 Ford F-150 vehicles with six-speed automatic transmissions.

My coworker just traded in her 2012 F-150 a few months ago after it was in and out of the dealership 10+ times due to wacky transmission issues. She had me drive / ride in it but never could reproduce the issue. She mentioned a couple others beyond what the recall mentioned:

--Down shifting into 1st gear at 50+ MPH
--Starting in 5th gear when accelerating from a dead stop
--Not shifting out of 1st gear when accelerating from a dead stop

Hopefully it's a simple as a software update.

The solenoid lead tray / pack has been problematic as well. The truck will go into limp mode, you turn it off start it again and it's fine for a while. I've replaced 2 on different trucks recently.

That supposedly only affects the TT models, I’ll download the update & dump it in myself before it goes to the dealer.

    FWIW .....

The previous recall (16S19) provided for ...

... extending the warranty coverage on the transmission molded leadframe, which contains the OSS, under Customer Satisfaction Program 16N02. This increases the transmission molded leadframe warranty coverage to a total of 10 years or 150,000 miles from the warranty start date, whichever occurs first.

lf your vehicle's transmisslon molded leadframe requires replacement due to an OSS failure and your vehicle is within the indicated time/mileage limitations, Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the transmission molded leadframe free of charge (parts and labor).

Yeah man, she told me depending on the speed she was at her son would either:

    (1) Say "Wheeeeeeeeeeeee mommy do it again!"
    (2) Freak the F out and cry the entire way home, more than likely due to mild / moderate whiplash.

After I couldn't reproduce it when driving the truck I advised her to drive 35 MPH and under and have fun!

I have a Roush-supercharged 2012 F-150 Raptor. Do any of you know whether an update like this to the program will affect the supercharger's tune?

It shouldn't as the recall only pertains to the transmission.

There is no "tune" for the supercharger. There is a tune for the engine management system which will affect the supercharger.
