I received a code P1728 'transmission slip malfunction'. code this be a sensor issue? Also is the transmission in a 2003 Marauder the same as in a Crown Vic or Marquis?

ive never seen it but trans slip codes dont usually end well
yes the vic and marquis trans is the same. The 03 & 04 marauder trans are easily interchangeable as well just need to update the oss teeth count and apply more 3-4 blip pressure for the 04 / 4r75w trans when used in an 03. That's the only two very minor tune adjustments.
The twins2.3 whipple/aluminatorVortech V-2 lots of goodies

bryan is correct the tail shaft housing is shorter on the other trans
but any aode/4r70w/4r75w trans out of any town car, marauder, mark viii, mach-1, crown vic, marquis, thunderbird, mustang, f-150 and e-250 w/ modular trans can very easily be swapped in but would require a slightly longer drive shaft if the trans has the short tail shaft housing.
Other than updating the oss teeth count and applying more 3-4 blip pressure for the 04 / 4r75w trans when used in an 03 you would have to update the trans ratio if using an aode from a 91-95.
as far as a direct swap in it would take a long tail shaft housing trans to keep the stock drive shaft length.
