I replaced mine and it failed after a year. It was covered under FOMOCO warranty. I did the labor though.

In the thirty + years 10 years as a Ford / Lincoln / Mercury tech and the rest working on mine, family members and friends cars I never had a clock spring fail..... knock wood.

Replaced my clock spring at 118k, (no cruise control). Parts $156, Labor $289,
tax $40 = Total $485.00 (2014). Dealer did the job.

Knock on wood like FBM. I personally haven't needed to replace mine, but a $15.00 tool at harbor freight sells a 3 jaw puller kit

I've yanked many MGM and Continental steering wheels, isn't the clock spring right there (the next step) once the wheel is off???

It's not a hard job. Only takes an hour. Do it yourself. And you don't need a puller.

Reinstall the steering wheel bolt a couple of turns to protect your face. Grab the wheel with both hands at 3 & 9 and start pulling in a rocking motion. It will pop right off. If you forgot to thread the bolt in then reinstall wheel quickly and go get your broken nose fixed.

I've never used a puller on any car because lazy.

I did clock spring in Louisville in 20 minutes start to finish. Super easy repair.
