After trying many kinds of 5w20 oil, full synthetic, and so on, and pulling the valve covers multiple times trying to chase it down...I decided to experiment and see if a little zinc and viscosity would help free up my sticky follower. It did. I've been running DIESEL OIL in the engine ever since; and it's perfectly quiet and consistent.

    Here's what I run: http://www.chevronlubricants.com/en_...l#.WShpcevythE

A buddy with a 2002 F150 also had follower noise and changed to this oil. The noise immediately stopped.

My change interval is 5K miles. Every 30K miles, I send in a sample for testing. They suggested that my oil change interval was too frequent. I stretched it to 10K miles once just to see if they'd have anything to say about it. Nope. No appreciable wear or contamination; and suggested that my oil change interval was sufficient. I went back to 5K miles. I also run 7qts of oil with a filter change, and at 5K miles I remove 6.5 qts on average; it burns about a half quart in 5K miles.

    Very interesting!

    BUMP

Mobil 1 POil sale at Costco 6 at cases $26.00 at register.

    BUMP BUMP

Ford oil special will take off the cost for oil ($2.55 X 5) and basically do the oil change with correct Motorcraft filter for $19.49 IF you bring your own oil.

So Mobil 1 oil change only costed me $19.99 + $26.99!!! (and the $237 dollars I spent at Costco on other things).

Wonder if Ford will still do the oil change if you supply the oil and the Walmart bought FL820S ($3.97)

    Yes and it is $12.99!

But I felt bad as I was servicing 3 cars... So I paid the extra $3.00 for thier filter, and kept mine.

Seems to me for 29.99 for the Ford everything oil change (w/rebate coupon), a filter, 5 qts of semi-syn oil, rotate the tires (non-MM cars) and fill the fluids (usually just W/W fluid), have the tech visually look at the pads and whatever else they do, + getting credit in the Ford bucks program it's not really worth the running all over town.

Although I doubt any Ford dealer puts their highly-trained ASE mechanics on oil-change duty, it's STILL a way better choice than Jiffy Loob.

Agreed, but the rumble of the clean Marauder always gets the shop looking! And a walk around the car with the Tech, to show him there are no dings or scratches what-so-ever and then they take good care of us!

$29.95 is all I've ever paid for an oil & filter change at my local Ford Dealer, regardless of quantity of oil required... it's bulk oil, anyway so the cost to the dealer isn't much different between 5 and 6 quarts. The dealer even pours Motorcraft 10W-40 from jugs, and an FL-1 for my 1984 Mustang convertible... same price.
    Regards,
