    Replacement Alternator

Could I use an alternator off any crown vic? I would have to order Reman one and it would take 7 days, I dont want to wait. There's plenty of CV's at the yard...

Seven days? NAPA, Auto Zone, or Advance should have one, maybe not in stock but next day.
Thanks to Darrin @ BC Automotive:

Correct... a CV alternator will fit but won't work. You need a "4G" style alternator.

RockAuto has them. I bet you can get it in 5 days or less if you pay for faster shipping.

Have it rebuilt at a local shop.
Turn around is sometimes as short as 2 hours, and costs around 80-100bucks

    This ^^

If you get a "new" alternator it will be Chinese junk likely to fail and leave you stranded. Put new bearings and brushes in your existing unit, or have an alternator shop do it for you. Re-use your existing internal regulator module from Ford, it is decent quality compared to the garbage at the parts stores.

Not to revive a dead thread but has anyone tried the 220 amp alternators that dbelectrical offers?
    http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-9809-a...2003-2004.aspx
I seem to recall someone saying that they installed one of their products and they had an issue with the belt not fitting on the pulley or that their belt suicided on it ? Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Going through older posts, I think it was JustBob that said his db unit "fell flat on it's face"
