Let me know how that works. I'm never confident about an eBay purchase that has no core charge or any mfg markings

I bought that same alternator a few months ago and I was not happy with it due to very erratic voltage. I returned it the same day.

That's because they put the wrong kind of regulator on it.

Do the 4g alternators have external regulators?

No. They have one that is a simple off/on and they have one that is PWM controlled by the PCM. Sort of like a returnless fuel pump control signal.

Any issues and how long have you had it on for ?

Mine was only the regular output, but yes, my DB Alt. and starter both failed immediately after the warranty ended. In fact, the starter solenoid grounded out internally and started a nasty electrical fire.. Others here have had great luck, me not so much.

I just went thru six weeks of hell with my alternator. It went during a snowstorm which to say the least sucked. I replaced it with a remanufactured alternator I got direct from Ford (ordered by vin) price not bad at $140 wholesale.

After it was on and warmed up the voltage started going crazy..up and down when stopped at lights, low enough to drop the RPM. I thought maybe the pigtail at the alternator was causing a problem as one of the wires felt too flexible, replaced it with a Ford pigtail..still no good. OK I figured that it was bad right from Ford so I exchanged it for another...same thing?? So I had them get me a third one which after installing did exactly the same thing.

By now I'm getting pretty pissed, and went with my gut which I should have done in the first place I found and bought a used on from car-part.com put it on and just like that problem solved.

I don't know why Ford had to make the regulator different on the Marauder than the Crown Vic or Marquis, but that really screws up getting a working alternator for our cars.

I hope this helps anyone in the future when replacing alternator

I wanted to thank you for posting this, last week my alternator went out on my marauder. I knew i had read THIS POST, and i knew to go with your sound advise about car-part.com So i checked car-part.com and there was a shop locally that had it. 53.00 out the door, then i returned a v6 buick alternator and got my $10.00 core back. Out the door for 43.00 and i kept my original alternator!
Local shop wanted 150 to repair, parts are over 100, and new is 175 plus tax.
So i went on ebay and bought the 33 spline tool to remove the clutch

Thanks for the suggestion, i appreciated it!
