    Another carb question

I am having trouble starting my truck in the morning when it's about 10 outside and it has never been this bad. It will take 3 miniutes to fire up and I keep cranking it over and over. I am new to carbs, but the guy who put it in said it needs more idol. It would always fire up and need to warm up for like a minute but it would always start up without a problem. Now it takes 3 minutes to fire up. What gives? The carb is a week old. What needs to be tweeked? I did add idol, and it actually took longer to start. Any takers?

Take it to your local speed shop and let them adjust the choke and idle. Watch and learn. It's simple stuff, after the first time.

Adding more idle speed and adding more cold idle speed are two different things. On the right side of the carb assembly [if it's the one I think it is] is the choke assembly and linkage. With the engine off, open the linkage all the way. On the choke linkage, you'll see a silver screw rotate up from the bottom. This is your fast idle adjustment. You'll need a 1/4 inch open end wrench. Turn the screw in for more fast idle, out for less.

There should be three phillips head screws on the choke housing. This is your choke "time" adjustment. Loosen the three screws and turn the assembly toward the front of the car one notch to make the choke come off sooner, toward the windshield to make the choke stay on longer.

    I hope this helps...

Great thank you because I just moved the knob back towards the car. I know what you mean about the 3 screws.

I assume that it's hard to start but then runs pretty decent?
Don't forget you have to "blip" the throttle at least once real good
to allow the choke to close to the cold position. Normally a couple
of pumps are required to squirt enought fuel into the engine to get
it it to fire off. If you do this and then crank it with the throttle closed
it should pop off, if not then start checking all the basics.
