    BF Goodrich Recalling 20,000 Tires

I know this could be a grey area, but I don’t think the right people were listening. Most of us directed these problems to the Mercury service manager. Maybe we should blitz BF Goodrich with e-mails and phone calls. Someone from this site could benefit from a free set of new tires. What do you think ?

    Greenville, SC 29602-9001

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - BFGoodrich is recalling 20,000 Land Terrain tires sold in the United States and Canada because they do not have the required tread wear indicators. The tires were produced between Feb. 29 and Aug. 19, 2004 at the company's plant in Opelika, Ala., the company said in a statement Friday. The size is P235/75R15, and the mold numbers are 40381 and 40382. The recalled tires have U.S. Department of Transportation tire identification numbers that begin with DOT AN HL B411 and end with the last four digits 0904 through 3304. The DOT code is on the inner sidewall of the tire just above the wheel rim. BFGoodrich will mail notices to consumers who bought the tires and will replace them for free. Consumers who believe they are affected by the recall can return to where they purchased their tires for a free inspection, the company said. The tires were made using two molds provided by a supplier that did not have the required tread wear indicators, the company said. The indicators, also known as wear bars, let drivers know when they need to replace their tires.

First off, that isn't our tire size. Even if it was, BillyGMan shredded them all 20k on his MM.

Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

    Rest In Peace:

See my garage file for part numbers and whatnot.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

It’s not about the exact details of the story, but the concept of complaining to the manufactory and getting results. BFG may not know about our tire problems if we don’t step up to the plate.

IMO BFG could care less. Firestone had a recall on Wilderness tires and only ones manufactured at a certain plant within a specific time frame. IMO that is

    P.S. I couldn't hurt to complain.

I e-mailed BFG , and the response was take them back to where they were purchased, and installed.
