If it doesn't harm performance in anyone and goes away once the engine is hot then it's simply the dreaded tick a good amount of these engines seem to make, mine use to do the same thing. If I remember correctly it's something with the cylinder heads

I'd still try a higher viscosity oil, it may help in a loud lifter or tensioner, high heat
i have about half a bottle of Lucas treatment oil left that i will add later this week.. wont be driving the MM til this Friday afternoon. hopefully that helps until i replace the lifter and or the chain guides and tensioners.
Speaking to this...
I had the same noise as heard in the video coming from my Marauder back in 2012. Ran normal other than making the noise for a few days. One morning, I stopped off and got gas, no issues, then when I went to start it, the car was stumbling real bad. No CELs. Ended up being the valve seats dropping due to overheating. Loss of compression on #8...
Definitely does not sound timing related to me, and I've done timing components on three 4.6s.

Just oil treatment does not work as well as draining and refilling with 5w30 but would suggest 40

If I change back to motorcraft 5w20, the tick will come back within 3K miles. If I put this diesel oil back in, it will be gone within 3K miles. I think it's a sticky follower, and I think this junk has magic additives or something that works better. Whatever it is, it works for me.
Kinda sounds like an exhaust manifold gasket leak...
Byron, that oil has a 100°C viscosity of 11.9 cSt, putting it at the thicker end of the range (9.30 to 12.49 for 30-grade). That may be another factor in your experience.

To bring this back from the dead. Over the last week during my winter break i took the time and replaced all 32 lifters with new fresh oil and filter and Few things happen..
1. Noise is still there.
2. Car went hot on me once at idle and other while driving.
3. I know now how to properly bleed the coolant system.
4. Car started to misfire under load last night.
So at this time it seems the heads will need to be removed to fix what ever this is. My two choices are either, i can put the car away until i save the funds to take it to a shop and have the heads repaired/replaced with rebuilt units or slowly start tearing it apart myself with no set date of completion.
