    4l80e transmission question..

After breaking my freddy brown 4stb trans, repairing that, and now I'm pretty sure my billet torque converter broke, I'm possibly looking to ditch the 4r in favor of a 4l80e, anyone here running an 80e? Just looking for maybe a little feedback on how you like it

I have a Hughes 4L80E but its still in the crate , as mentioned CWright ran a 4L80E it transformed the way the car drove and shifted , the 4L80E or the 6R80 are your best options.

I cannot understand how these built transmissions break. I absolutely pound my 2 built 4r70's with no issues

Torque is what kills them, switching to a highly effficient non lockup converter might save it for a few more years.

I'm with you. We usually go thru 2nd gear clutches every 2 years, but we on the track alot. Something hard finally broke. I havent torn it down yet to see what. We just have trans go kit, extra clutches in a couple packs and the 300m stub. None of the fancy hard parts yet.

I would honestly just go with the 6R Seneca. the controller is out, it bolts right up and has been proven to handle A LOT of power in its stock form so no need to spend money on building one after getting it and it has 2 extra gears.

Unfortunately, i can attest to the fact that they are the weak link in the drive train..... I went thru one stock and (2) built transmissions.

Thanks for all the info guys, and the inside scoop on the trans you guys are running, really appreciate it, I haven't pulled mine yet, I have alot of actual work jobs before that happens, at the moment I am really leaning towards the 6r80 I got time tho and need to do more research, when I started the build on this care originally I intended to be on the track more then the road, things have changed and I really enjoy driving the car on the street, I'm not crazy about shifting gears all the time, my current trans is a manual valve body trans brake all that good stuff likely I'll do the 6r80 as it sounds like a good choice for me
I'll update when I get to the car
    Thanks again

Question for those with 4L80. What did you do with the shifter? I retained the stock shifter but feel it could be better. Curious what others have done.

And can it be used with a column shift (without extensive fabbing), or just the floor/console one?
