    torque converter

    Hi,
My transmission runs fine but if I am in first gear and I floor the gas sometimes the engine revs then it catches. Is this the converter?

Can you suggest what a good torque converter would be to buy.... A few years ago my transmission man said that there were gold savings in my tranny pan and most likely the converter!!!!!

    No, not a converter.

Most likely the OD band is failing or the OD servo bore in the case is worn which will require a Sonnex Sure Cure kit to fix (this was my problem).

Rebuild the trans, put a Sure Cure hit in it and ask member 88grandmarq for help, he's a trans wizard.

To me that sounds more like an issue with the clutches and likely a total rebuild required. I’m no expert though.

That’s how the transmission in my 97 Crown Victoria started to act before I lost first gear all together.

I will agree that the problem is least likely caused by a failed/failing torque converter.

The Forward clutch is engaged in first gear and most likely the friction discs are worn and slipping. Get the transmission rebuilt or replace with a good used one.
I rebuild AOD/AODE/4R70W/4R75E Transmissions, check out my Facebook page for my latest project; https://www.facebook.com/pages/North...48414635312478

    Either will do it.

All my clutches were like new, band was not engaging properly due to worn case bore on servo piston.

Either way the cure is the same - rebuild and Sonnex kit = back on the road.
